Mindful Meditation and Creativity for Youth with Rob Lieblein

Today’s young people often deal with enormous amounts of stress as they balance the demands of school, extracurricular activities, peer group relations, and more. Many of the coping mechanisms kids turn to—such as social media and other screen-related activities—are not helpful in the long term, and can even intensify stress.


Mindfulness is a fundamental life skill that can be a powerful tool for settling the mind and inviting greater clarity to our thinking. 

Research on mindfulness training in youth is suggests the following benefits:

  • Increased calmness and resilience in the face of stress;

  • Greater emotional regulation and the ability to respond thoughtfully to difficult situations instead of reacting impulsively;

  • Increased focus and attention;

  • Heightened empathy and compassion.

In addition, regular mindfulness practice for young people interested in the arts can lead to new ways of seeing and thinking about their craft.

In this 6 week workshop series we will practice a variety of simple, accessible mindfulness techniques—both “formal” meditations and ways to bring mindfulness into everyday living. We’ll also explore the connections between mindfulness and creativity through journaling, group discussion, yoga/movement, games and other reflective activities. 

  • Ages 10-13 years

  • 6-week session, Saturdays, 11:30am-12:30pm, beginning April 27th

  • Class dates: 4/27, 5/4, 5/11, 5/18, 5/25, 6/1

  • Located at New Paltz Community Center, 3 Veterans Drive New Paltz, NY
